So…what do I get? Part 2

Hello everyone!  This is a follow up to my (very snarky) previous post.  I promise to be less snarky this time………

Yes.  I still get phone calls frequently asking this question.  “So, what do I get?”.  I don’t ever recall a time in my life that I called a lodging establishment (Ritz, Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Holiday Inn,  etc.) and asked this question.  Never.  So, needless to say, it still causes me to stumble a bit.

Usually, they follow up the question with the obvious statement:  “I’ve never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast before”.  So, as I dwell on my answers, I realize it may just be as simple as managing our guests expectations and educating those B&B newbies about what they are going to “get”.

In addition to all the things you get in my part 1 post, here is what to expect when you stay with us at The Fleur-De-Lys Mansion:

  1.  The front desk clerk that checks you in will also be your hostess at breakfast; your baker;  and your bus boy.
  2. The maintenance man you call to unclog something in your room; change a lightbulb; or fix anything will also be your personal chef at breakfast.
  3. The IT technician you need to restart the WiFi router or get your smart tv on the correct HDMI is the same person that checked you in (see #1).
  4. It will not be unusual for you to see your personal chef mowing the yard, landscaping, and working on his list of “honey dos” necessary to maintain a 108 year old historic home.

What I am trying to say is you get US.  No, we are not the Ritz and the Four Seasons.  Your room is unique – there is no other room that looks like the one you sleep in.  We are all in – all in to taking care of you and making sure you have the best experience possible while you are under our roof.

One of the hardest things for me to accept the first month as Innkeepers was there were strangers sleeping under our roof.  I don’t want you to be strangers – I check you in and get to know you a bit, you get to know me, and through that process you are no longer strangers.

If this sounds OK to you, please don’t hesitate to be our guest at The Fleur-De-Lys Mansion.  We will wear all of our many hats and try our best to meet all of your expectations.

Come see us,

Mark and Leslie

  1. Mark and Leslie, this is a wonderful message! You’ve described exactly “what you get” at The Fleur-de-Lys, which is much more than you “get” anywhere else. We are so happy to see that you feel the same way about innkeeping and have continued in the manner that enriched our lives as the innkeepers and caregivers of The Mansion! May God bless you both as you make friends out of strangers every day!

  2. You guys are the best! I was so pleased with my stay there. You both were so inviting and kind, and made me feel at home. It was a great room and I slept SO good! Although traveling alone, it was exactly the rest I needed before getting back to my destination. Your hospitality is unmatched! The warm cookies were delicious at check in, as was the elegant breakfast displayed for me in the morning. Blessing dear friends! I’ll be back!
