Designed by American architect Cass Gilbert and built with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie and the citizens of St. Louis, Central Library opened its doors in 1912. For 100 years, Central Library has faithfully served the people of St. Louis, however, because of its intense use, Central’s infrastructure and systems must be modernized and updated.
