This is the first major expansion in a generation and will be open in June 2013!
David Chipperfield from London, designed the new East Building adding more than 200,000 sq. ft. This new expansion honors both Forest Park and the original Cass Gilbert-designed building with a highly polished stone facade composed of Missouri River aggregate.
This new addition will display works of art that have rarely, if ever, been seen by the pubic eye. There will be more than 20 new galleries that will showcase 250 works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
The new addition will also include a new restaurant with gorgeous views of Forest Park. There will also be a new parking garage built to add 300 new parking spaces to the Museum lot.
Come see the opening for yourself by attending the ribbon cutting ceremony on Fine Arts Drive the morning of June 29. Then stick around for A World of Art, a festival full of art, music, dance, and family activities all inspired by the diversity of the amazing museum.
