Baked Eggs with Ham and Gruyére Cheese

Bake in individual baking dishes about 4-2/1-inches square on the bottom, or oval ones 6-7 inches long.

6 thin slices Black Forest Ham (1-2 ounces each)
12 large eggs
¼ cup cream
4-1/2 ounces Gruyére cheese, shredded (about 1-1/4 cups)
Salt and freshly-ground pepper

Heat oven to 350ºF. Butter six individual baking dishes and put slices of ham in bottom of each, enough to cover. Break eggs over ham. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spoon 2 teaspoons of cream over eggs and sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of cheese, enough to cover.
Bake about 20-25 minutes, until eggs are set and cheese is lightly browned on top. Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes while eggs complete cooking.
Serve with artisan bread, fried potatoes and seasonal fruit.
